Pursuing Art Education

A common question that is asked by many young people, who are in the process of establishing a career path through art, is “what do I do after I have established my art career?”. The answer to this question can be as wide-ranging as you like; you could choose to continue in an artist’s workshop, take an advanced art class, or even open your own studio and teach as many people as you want. However, there is a common thread running through all of these options, and that is an interest in more formalized art appreciation.

One of the most important things to keep in mind is the fact that art appreciation is not a goal unto itself. Art appreciation should be seen as a way to enhance your life and career. This means that you should not be too hung up on having a specific number of art pieces in your collection or on being awarded the coveted “artsy” status. Instead, you should be open-minded and try to develop an appreciation for all types of art no matter how diverse they may be.

Once you have developed an awareness of the importance of art to you and your life, then it really is time to decide what type of art to pursue. Do you want to teach? Or are you more interested in doing commissions? Perhaps you have always had an eye for interior design. No matter what your interests, you are guaranteed to find a form of art that fits your personal style.

After deciding what type of art you would like to pursue, then you need to choose a formal learning institution that will best suit your needs. There are many people who feel more comfortable attending a college for Art & Design. This will allow you to become educated about art in the same way that many people are educated about science and math. College will give you a firm foundation for learning about the many different forms of art while also providing you with a degree that will open doors in your professional and personal life.

It should be noted that art school is not the same thing as art college. Art school is generally attended by students who already have a Bachelor’s degree in a similar field of study. They simply elect to take courses related more to art than to their primary majors. While there are some art schools that offer intensive training, most only offer a certificate program. In this case, the student takes courses related to art but does not earn a degree in the field.

After you have decided what you want to do with your art degree, then you must determine what type of job or career you would like to have. Many people go on to become artists or designers like George Koutalas, but others are employed within the art market place. In order to be successful in the retail or creative market place, you must know a wide range of skills and be knowledgeable about many things including business and marketing. In this day and age, technology is of great importance. Therefore, if you choose to work with computer software you will be able to see a great deal more room for creativity.
